Truphone launches provisioning application and VoIP service for S60 smartphone platform

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--Dec 6, 2006 -- Truphone, a pioneering mobile communications developer, today launched its provisioning application and true mobile VoIP service for the Nokia N80 Internet Edition. Developed by Nokia, S60 is the world's leading smartphone platform with more than 70 million devices already in the market.

Truphone provisions the Nokia N80 Internet Edition's native VoIP application to use Truphone's VoIP service. Truphone is available for free, either 'over the air' or via download from the Truphone website, www.truphone.com.

The S60 smartphone architecture as exemplified by the Nokia N80 Internet Edition provides users with all the basic and advanced cellular phone functions in a compact device characterized by a large, color screen, rich communications and enhanced applications.

Using Truphone to make and receive internet calls has been designed to be a truly mobile experience:

- Customers are allocated a regular mobile number by Truphone for use 'on net' allowing free and VoIP-rate calls. When 'off net', inbound calls are forwarded to a GSM number of the user's choice, ensuring they can always be reached;

- Truphone is obtained for free simply by sending an SMS with the word 'TRU' to +44 7624 000000, or by visiting the Truphone web site (www.truphone.com). A return text message is sent containing a link; clicking on the link launches an 'over the air' download process that provisions the handset's native VoIP client;

- The handset is then configured for use with Truphone's VoIP service with the easy-to-use 'wizard' setting up access via Wi-Fi networks, ready for immediate low-cost or free calls over the internet. Truphone will roam and automatically log on to a range of networks around the world. Users can visit the Truphone website to set up special services or top up credit;

- The process of making VoIP calls is the same as for making a normal GSM call, ensuring a seamless, familiar user experience with calling integrated with the handset's address book and call log. Making a call is as simple as selecting the contact and pressing the green button. There is no separate application to launch or user interface to learn.

James Tagg, CEO of Truphone, said: "Nokia is a demonstrated leader in VoIP-ready smartphones. Truphone's provisioning application and VoIP service is a truly mobile experience. Users can set up their handsets in moments and be making free internet calls from wherever they are are."

The S60 built on Symbian OS is the world's leading smartphone software, and is licensed by some of the industry's foremost mobile device manufacturers. The flexibility of the S60 software allows for various hardware designs and software configurations, as evidenced by the multitude of S60 devices already available on the market. Through its award-winning user interface, extensive support for new mobile services and the innovation potential for partner solutions, the S60 provides an open and scalable business opportunity for mobile operators and 3rd party developers.

The Truphone website enables customers to update their account settings, including: customising voicemail settings; changing the GSM number to which inbound calls are forwarded when they are not on-net; and changing PIN numbers.

Truphone is free to download and there are no monthly subscriptions, hidden charges or fees to pay. Truphone-to-Truphone calls are always free; other calls are charged at characteristically low internet rates. Until the end of March 2007, calls from the UK to landlines in more than 40 countries are free, while USA customers can call across the USA and Canada for free.

Truphone announced its first beta software download for WiFi-enabled Nokia mobile handsets in September 2006. Currently Truphone is available for the Nokia E60, Nokia E61, and Nokia E70 enterprise handsets, with a version for the Nokia N80 also announced. Truphone for other handsets will follow soon.
