Sprint launches location-based shopping from a mobile phone

It's nothing new to shop online even if you are shopping from your mobile phone. Yet, Sprint has found a way to take this mobile shopping experience to the next level. Sprint is now offering a shopping application for mobile phones that is location-aware.

The new application, called Slifter, is being offered by Sprint and GPShopper. Slifter works by allowing customers to search for a product by keyword, product name, model number, or even UPC code. UPC code is valuable if you already have possession of a product and want to find another one, or if you are looking for the same product at the lowest price. After this information is entered, the application lists not only who has the product, but also which retail location is closest to the user.

Slifter takes advantage of GPS technology in mobile phones. The application is available from the Sprint Digital Lounge and costs US$1.99 per month to use. This is the ultimate shopping application for the ultimate shopper.

Best thing about the application is you don't have to find a product through trial and error. You are letting your fingers do the shopping for you. Sprint better not use that line without giving me credit.
