Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has inked its first direct-to-consumer mobile deal with online mobile retailer Thumbplay.
Thumbplay will offer a range of ringtones, wallpaper and games from Sony television and film properties; video will be added by year's end. Titles range from current theatrical "Open Season" to TV properties including "Jeopardy!" and "The Boondocks."
Eric Berger, vp mobile entertainment at SPHE, said Thumbplay will broaden the opportunities for consumers to get SPHE mobile content.
"Historically, our business has been selling content to consumers through mobile carriers and operators," he said. "Thumbplay is our first partner in this space because they have a terrific footprint, an impressive management team and creative subscription models."
SPHE will be added to a list of primary partnerships to be highlighted on Thumbplay, the leading mobile online retailer in September, according to Hitwise data, including Lifetime Television and Heavy.com.
