The Hindu Business Line has an article on Qualcomm?s interest in launching a MediaFLO network in India. There are no specific companies mentioned, but Qualcomm India is apparently already in talks with operators, content providers and broadcasters. The article says mobile TV will be ?commercially unleashed on Indians? within two years, although from the sound of it spectrum hasn?t been allocated yet?part of the consortium?s job will be to lobby the government about that. There?s also a note that the technology could be used to help rural areas, which sounds like a bit of a political carrot. ?We could use Mobile TV to send an interactive video on pregnancy to a villager, in her mother tongue, solving issues of reach and understanding. In the lines of the old TV serial Krishi Darshan, we could also broadcast the steps to cultivate his land right to his handheld,? said Mr Nikhil Jain, Chief Technical Advisor, Qualcomm India. For this to take place, Mobile TV needs to be given an affordability check. However, the firm is confident that reducing handset prices would make this happen in a few years.?
