iShared Mobiliti 6.0 Enables Mobile Users Access to Centralized Files Anytime, Anywhere With More Robust Management, Synchronization and Backup of Edge Data
Packeteer? the global leader in WAN Application Optimization, today announced release 6.0 of its iShared Mobiliti software that significantly improves file backup and data synchronization, enabling edge data consolidation while securing remote access for mobile and individual remote desktop users. With iShared Mobiliti, mobile users no longer need a physical connection to corporate file servers to work on current versions of centralized files, which facilitates an unprecedented level of freedom to access corporate data anytime and anywhere.
"As the number of mobile and remote employees continues to grow dramatically, the need to manage and consolidate distributed data being accessed by an increasingly dispersed workforce is emerging as one of the most significant IT initiatives facing enterprises today," said Lucinda Borovick, program director at IDC. "Consequently, leading edge enterprises are actively evaluating technologies that can simplify file backups and synchronize data being accessed over the WAN by their mobile and remote employees."
The iShared Mobiliti software is a strategic addition to Packeteer's product portfolio through the recent acquisition of Tacit Networks. IShared Mobiliti provides mobile and individual remote desktop users with WAN-optimized data backup and virtual network file. Using cached data from selected network file servers, iShared Mobiliti 6.0 displays the same folders and drive mappings as if the user were connected to the enterprise network, regardless of the presence of a network connection. The software applies WAN compression and dynamically selects between three file-differencing techniques to cut down on network traffic loads between mobile users and the enterprise network to dramatically reduce synchronization and backup time.
"With increasing numbers of mobile and remote employees, enterprises have a significant challenge centralizing data management and protecting corporate data distributed across multiple geographies and devices," said David Puglia, Vice President of Marketing for Packeteer. "With the significant enhancements in our newest release of iShared Mobiliti, we're providing mobile users with data consolidation and protection capabilities comparable to our larger corporate branch office users. As a result, mobile users will be much more productive while having the assurance that their data is literally in sync with the enterprise network."
What's New in iShared Mobiliti 6.0
iShared Mobiliti 6.0 features a new administrative console that enables administrators to create individual user or group profiles, view or change individual settings and produce a consolidated synchronization report of all users. This simplifies the task of centralizing large-scale product rollouts and allows pre-staging of product configuration settings through flexible user or group profiles.
In addition, the new iShared Mobiliti 6.0 software supports a unique, version-aware backup capability for commonly used Microsoft Outlook PST files. Historically, this file class has not been easily protected, especially for remote users accessing servers over wide area networks. iShared Mobiliti 6.0 efficiently addresses Outlook PST file protection through the use of synchronization, caching and WAN optimization techniques. By coupling this capability with iShared Mobiliti's new email redirector feature, local and network copies of Outlook files can now be synchronized easily. In effect, this functionality simulates a network-based PST file without negatively impacting user performance or WAN traffic loads.
iShared Mobiliti 6.0 also makes it possible to mirror and synchronize user data that resides in multiple locations. This is especially important in situations where Microsoft Office files are accessed by mobile users in different locations, often times resulting in the same file being modified by multiple users simultaneously. iShared Mobiliti 6.0 offers a conflict resolution option that automatically preserves file changes from each user.
iShared Mobiliti 6.0 is available immediately and trial versions of the software can be downloaded over the Web at www.mobiliti.com. Pricing for iShared Mobiliti starts at $157 for single user licenses. Multiple user pricing options are available.
