Nokia researchers are working on a futuristic system called Mobile Augmented Reality Applications [MARA] which allows physical objects to be identified and connected to the Internet through our mobile phone screens. The technology helps to identify restaurants, hotels, and landmarks and provide Web links and basic information about these objects on the phone's screen. The MARA prototype application uses accelerometers in all three axes to determine orientation, a tilt compensated compass for heading, and GPS for positioning.
