New Delhi, Oct 31: Sports broadcaster ESPN-Star Sports (ESS) today announced the launch of a value-added service domain for mobile phones, ESPN Mobile, which will offer subscribers news, interviews and other information on sports events across the world.
ESS, which hopes to corner as many as 100 million mobile subscribers to its service over the next five years, said it will invest Rs 40 crore toward initial marketing budget, though refusing to divulge the investments made on the development of the platform that will be available from November 15.
Initially to be offered in English and Hindi, the company plans to start feed in regional languages over the next six months.
"Mobile ESPN will offer fans unique sports content on their cell phones, delivering not only wireless voice service, but also applications such as easy access to sports news, information, commentary, analysis and sports statistics," ESS Software India Managing Director R C Venkateish told reporters here.
Mobile ESPN, which will be a 360 degree sports service covering every possible game in all possible formats like voice, video, text and SMS, will be available for monthly packages ranging between Rs 50 to Rs 100.
"Customers can also avail services on pay-per-use basis on regular telecom tariffs for such services," ESPN said.
The company's New Business Head Sricharan Iyengar said ESPN Mobile will provide information about any match irrespective of the channel it is broadcast on.
